Too many adjectives could describe Carole but my favourite is witty—she loved to tell a good joke.
She certainly had a good one tucked away for St. Peter at the golden gates.
Rest In Peace Carole my friend.
Liston our thoughts and prayers are with you and family.

Carole ,we know you since our oldest children went to Ecole Maternelle in Embrun. Then we would meet again now and then through activities from the sheepclub . Remembering we were involved to promote – lambmeat – and our ovens were filled to cook lambroast for the Ottawa Winter Exhition to sell at a promotional lambmeat booth .
Carol you as a very dedicated nurse instilled in me a desire te persue the field of nursing . So I went back to school and was RPN for25 years .
Your and our children attended St. Joseph school in the same grades and were good friends; also had many playtimes at each other places .
Over the years our families shared times over dinners your place and ours enjoying wonderfully good times .
As parkinsons became more of a challenge , you Carol and Liston still would come for coffee time and goodies and sometimes we would play rummycup . We would also come to have the freshly roasted coffee and your homebaking at your place .
And then not to forget almost like keeping best for last , The Russell Olympics that you Carol and Liston held for many years; that was absolutely a thrilling event.
Carole , thanks for your fantastic welcomes and commitments to each and all.
Now for you Carole blessings and and peace.
Love from Bill and Joyce
Tony, Katie and I want to thank Carole and yourself for all your hospitality over the years. We remember all the August 1st games day which celebrates your anniversary as well. We wear our t-shirt with pride. Katie and I loved our swims in the pool with Carole. Our golfing for the guys and shopping and lunch for the girls. those times are missed. I particularly enjoyed our chats on Wednesday when we shared a golf cart. I remember watching Carole hit the golf ball and see it fly down the course with ease when she was having trouble with her balance. It was beauty in motion.
Sending our love
Sue, Tony and Katie
Barb and I enjoyed many years of friendship with Carole and Liston during our annual international golf and shopping tours with Dan and Diane Oconnor and Sue and Tony Perry. Well remember her as engaging in activities with enthusiasm, a smile and a quiet voice. RIP
Deepest sympathies Mac. What a girl.
Carole and I worked together for 14 years at the EOHU teaching prenatal classes. I also knew her as a nurse in the school and took parenting classes from her when my children were young. My last time with Carole was at Ladies’ Night (the last photo) which I took and she looked so radiant and was having so much fun that evening. A lovely person and a beautiful soul. I love the Dalai Lama quote. That was Carole.
I have such fond memories of Carol when we were neighbours on McLaren Lane from 1986 to 1996..she was such an amazing caring and kind woman..she was like a family to us..she will always be missed.fly high Carol and rest peacefully..you will always be loved by the Romars😘😘🙏🙏
Carole was 100-percent special through-and-through and I will ever be grateful to her for her friendship. . . . Our nursing careers brought us together in the mid 1970s and flourished from there; additional decades allowed us to enjoy many cherished times together and blessed me with a huge bank of cherished memories. The following stand out:
OUR HOMES: We could be found, now and then, together usually with our families at one of our homes often just relaxing . . . but my home-memory also includes the annual “total engagement of body and soul” at the much anticipated (and hilarious!) McIlhagga Russell Olympics. The entire McIlhagga family ensured that each and every guest felt welcomed, included and well fed! And Carole, with joyful exuberance, often announced the start of the “games” by blowing the conch! This is a favourite memory. . . .
MIDDAY OUTINGS: We looked forward to our luncheons because they gave us a chance to reunite and update with mutual friends. They were lots of fun and at times very lively! Such wonderful memories of closely-knit friends enjoying one another!
EVENING & NIGHTTIME FUN: No excuse was needed for us to take advantage of the odd “let loose” evening or night out! Several of these excursions took place at the Marionville Community Centre! The costume-creativity so impressed me!
Following are several accompanying photos illustrating:
-an Impromptu Dance at the Clarkin home, 2017. I love this photo. I love the memory! It was wonderfully obvious my friend was still very much in love and, although unwell, I remember her dancing with dignity, grace and so much joy. I also loved the fact that Carole was never shy to express the love she felt for Liston.
-a particular Luncheon that occurred in 2006, I believe, but I do not remember where. It, just as all our other lunch gatherings, still make me smile.
-the 2006 Let-loose Outing shows Carole (in the red dress) hamming it up at the Marionville Community Centre. In my eyes Carole and the expression “joie de vivre” are synonymous. She was, and she generously gave, SO much joy!
“Some people come into our lives and leave foot prints on our hearts and we are never the same.” — I am very thankful for the little foot prints Carole left on my heart because they made my life brighter and are responsible for her gift of many exceptional and truly special memories!
Forever friend! We were only 5-6 when we met, living only a few houses apart. Our days were spent back and forth at each other’s home . My mom would give us mounds of material and we would sew and create doll clothes all day. You took me to my first brownie meeting. When you moved away at 10 we said we would always be friends, so we wrote to each other often. My first airplane ride was to Ottawa to visit you in nursing residence. What a great weekend we had. I then met the man you said you were going to marry, Liston. We came to your wedding and have visited back and forth ever since. Sometimes it would be a long interval but each time it seemed like we just saw each other yesterday.
Thank you Carole for your friendship in the past , in the present, and in the future. Your forever friend Helen
So much packed into a life cut short too soon. I worked with Carole giving CCRC workshops. Many of these were put on at the Bronson Centre. We worked hard planning a day that would be inclusive to everyone, but it was Carole’s bright smile and gentle way about her that made the day successful. She even provided a wholesome lunch which she managed to make while giving the workshop. How she juggled so many hats is beyond me. When I realized during our time doing this that something was off, I was worried. A diagnosis of Parkinson’s followed soon afterwards. We probably would have continued to provide this much needed knowledge about conflict resolution for many more years and I was saddened to leave it and Carole. Her strength and ability to cope with a debilitating disease was amazing, but she couldn’t have done it without the love and support of her husband, Liston. We miss you Carole. You were one of a kind!
